Cervical Deformity or Kyphosis

Spinal deformity can also occur in the cervical (upper) spine. Kyphosis which is a loss of the ability to keep the head upright, which can occur in a small number of patients with cervical degenerative disease or from genetically predisposal conditions such as ankylosis spondylitis. This is a terrible debilitating condition as the patient cannot hold the head upright and eyesight is limited to a downward direction, and moderate or severe neck pain is common. Surgical intervention requires posterior cervical fusion with hardware placed from the back of the neck to realign the spine.
