CERVICAL LAMINECTOMY OR LAMINOPLASTY
CERVICAL LAMINECTOMY OR LAMINOPLASTY
When cervical spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal) is presented at multiple levels, a posterior cervical (back of the neck), procedure may be preferred. A cervical laminectomy involves removing the roof top or lamina at one or more vertebrae levels from an incision on the back side of the neck. An alternative to laminectomy, can preserve the cervical lamina with an open-door technique. Whereby the lamina is hinged open and secured. Surgery from the back of the neck is usually more uncomfortable than an anterior cervical surgery. Both procedures can decompress the spinal cord or nerve roots.
