Thoracic Spinal Stenosis
Thoracic Spinal Stenosis
Like the cervical or lumbar spine, constriction of the spinal canal in the midback can occur. Degenerative disease or genetic conditions such as achondroplasia can cause loss of available space for the spinal cord. Spinal cord compression can lead to symptoms of lower extremity, weakness, loss of balance, or loss of bowel and bladder control. Surgical treatment with thoracic laminectomy (removal of the lamina or rooftop) is the standard treatment.
